Elevated Lead in Oil Analysis

Blackstone is telling me that the last 2 oil changes have been higher than normal on Lead parts per million. This typically indicates a bearing issue. I'm at 80,000 miles and truck runs like a dream.

Can any of you tell me where lead is found in the 6.0 if other than the main bearings? How about the turbo bearing? Camshaft bearings? Any where else?

I'm using Mobil Delvac1 5w-40 synthetic. Same oil I used in 2003 up to 180,000 miles.

How high is it?
Are you using biodiesel?
Are you using a fuel additive?

What's your oil change interval?

Also, curious what the SUS viscosity was.

5000 mile oil change intervals. The last one went 236 miles over.

SUS viscosity was 63.8 at 210F. (11.28 at 100C).

My viscosities usually run 11.2 to 11.6 cSt.

Last oil change after maybe 3500 miles towing travel trailer in mountains.

Just for S&G's try a different oil on the next change and see if the readings change. I'm not condemning your oil but on other posts some trucks react differently to different oils. Just something to try that won't cost you any extra money.

Is there a synthetic oil that is as easy to purchase? Rotella makes one, right?

Yes, Rotella T-6 is a 5W40 synthetic that is priced reasonably at Walmart.

I switched to Schaeffer 9000 and soon thereafter my lead numbers started going up. They weren't too alarming, but above the stated average.

I switched to Valvoline PBE and the lead went back down to the old levels.

Unfortunately the iron started going up. Again - not bad, but I did not like the trend.

I just switched to Rotella T6 tonight - great price at Wal-Mart ($19 for a gallon)
