oil path through engine, what is it?
can any body tell me the path oil takes throught the engine?
I know that is goes through the mains and rods first, but which direction? back to front, front to back? then where?
Please include in that path where the oil pressure is taken, if you can.
Trying to figure out if I have mains/rod bearings going out or cam bearings. I don't want to pull the motor to find I could of replaced the main/rod bearings in the truck.
Thanks,
Oil flow from the filter goes first to the oil pressure sender port, then to the front main and cam bearings, and to a main gallery runninng fore and aft, just to the right (passenger side) of the camshaft. Main bearings are fed from that gallery, and cam bearings from the mains. Rod bearings are then fed from the mains thru drilled passages in the crankshaft. Finally, the lifter galleries are fed from the rear.
So, main to cam and rod bearings, front to rear.
Jim
Does'nt the oil go throught the mains and rods at the same time? Not being a seperate path? How does the cam get oil? from the mains? or from the Gallies?
I am confused..
Some one please draw a diagram or post a pic.
What do the gallies do if the all the oil is delivered from the mains?
Jimandmandy, Thanks for replying, I just need a pic to understand better.
