NOT IMPRESSED!

I put my JWVB in that I got from Clay at Riffraff last night and I'm not impressed. It doesn't feel much different than the stock one. Can this be adjusted? When it shifts into drive about 30 mph right before it goes to lock up is where I'm the most unhappy. At that shift the engine rpm doesn't really even change. You can feel it shift but it still just slides in. Should it not engage the gear, drop in rpm, and pull through that gear? If I didn't know any different and just got in the truck for the first time I would not know it was any different than stock. I would like all the shifts to be a little more crisp cuz the second shift is pretty much the same way. Any ideas???? Am I expecting the impossible???

Since you have the F6 and got tunes before you got the VB have Jody send you some tunes to increase the line pressure. Ask for several with different line pressures and just buy the one that feels or works the best.

Is your tuner still hooked up? has it been re-burnt for the new VB?
Jodi has to reburn the chip for the VB...maybe thats it???

He could probly do that but it is not the correct way to increase line pressure.I needs to be done mechanically (by the VB) not electronically

A valve body only firms up the shift itself. It has no bearing on shift points, engaging a gear, drop in RPM's after a shift, or the overall pull through the gear. That is strictly up to the tuning and the strength of the torque converter itself.

So in a way... yes you were expecting the impossible with a valve body.

Robin,
I was thinking the samething but then I would have to redue all my tunes right? I agree with Ray in that it would probably be better mechanically that way its there and done no matter what tune I buy in the future? I just want to know what to do to make it better. Anybody?

I'm not worried about the shift points. But like you say the valve body should firm up the shifts which in my way of thinking does engage the next gear which should pull the engine rpm down being that its in a higher ratio. Now, how much does the converter play in that? I don't know.
Now after that event when the converter locks up it puts you back in the seat. I wonder if the converter is the issue.

I think either way you would have all your present tunes tweeked, but to my way of thinking if the VB controlled the line pressure and such and if the chip died for some reason the trans would still shift correctly with out it

In this artical Greg Evans explains the down fall of letting the chip control line pressure http://www.dieselsite.com/index.asp?...ROD&ProdID=251

It firms shifts as in the clutch will not slip. If you have a tuner and get on the throttle the clutch will start slipping and it will BANG into the next gear. A valve body eliminates that.

I'm not even close to having anything BANG into the next gear. Like I said if I didn't know any different I wouldn't believe it wasn't stock still. Instead of getting frusterated on here I'm going to call John Wood today and see what he says. It could be the clutches are engaging right away but the converter is making it feel like they are not. If that makes sense.

Feel free to contact Jody or James if you have any questions about the tuning. James may be your best bet as Jody is live tuning this morning. James number is 423-709-8640.

Thanks

Diane

try searching for the transgo tugger install, people have talked about drilling the plate using different sizes to get firmer or softer shifts by what drill bit size you use. i have not done this so i cannot give you much info. hopefully some one with more experience will chime in.

I'm in the same boat Kris. I just intsalled mine today and it shifts like the original vb. I think i may just fork out the money and get tunes from jody and hopefully thay will firm them up the way i want them. Let me know if you have any luck on your part.

I thought the JW VB *didn't* require new tunes...

Is that different now?? When I put in my Tugger, it was a NIGHT & DAY difference (after getting tunes to match). In fact, it was nearly as dramatic as the way it felt when I first put the tuner on.
