I think this is what happens when try to tune the VB to the chip.Which is why I never ordered a JW VB
the trans should do it's own thing and same with the chip. That way if the chip has to be pulled the trans isn't affected
Just my .02
i learn something new too lol. i had my tranny rebuilt and it has a tugger kit in it. when i turn my chip up and stand on it. it will not let me wind the engine up it will shift before i get it wound up. and i was kinda expecting what you were that it would not shift untill a higher rpm my trans shifts like yours it will shift into OD around 30-45mph depending on if im coasting or on the throttle a little bit

Like Izzy351 Joe said Ray, you don't need special tweeking done to your tunes when you get a J. Wood VB. I had my DP F-5 before I got the JW VB in and all the VB did was firm up the shifts even better. The VB that needs re tuning done is a BTS if you already have tunes. In stock mode the fella with the new VB still should feel a difference in shifting, even more so with a chip. Somethings up.
To me, the tuning SHOULD be tweaked to match the VB. Shift points, delay, and pressures all should be different than when tuned for a stock VB. Keep in mind that tuners call for different shift strategies for better performance. When I put in my Tugger, it was AWESOME in stock mode, but felt terrible running tunes. That's because the tunes were adjusting for stock, mushy shifts that were no longer there. So IMHO, the TransGo is a better option because it's all done in the VB, so more stock-like shifting can be setup.
I think i may just fork out the money and get tunes from jody and hopefully thay will firm them up the way i want them.
If you already have a TS style chip, give Tony Wildman, PHP, Swamps, Beans, or about any other guy that tunes trucks, they can reburn your chip with new tunes. It'll save you some money.
I agree that the transmission should be able to funciton normally on it's own, and it will with a stock PCM. But if we are wanting to tweak shift points and everything else to improve performance, towing or drag racing, that's gotta be done through some tuning. Right now the tunes you have are probably setup for a completely stock transmission, you go and change something on it, it'll throw off various parameters that the chip is using to control the transmission, and so some re-tuning is required.
And maybe there is something more to it, like you're thinking possibly the TC. Hopefully you get it figured out.
