Hello all...i'm new to the ranger section of this site. I just bought a 99 ranger 3.0 with 47000 miles. Today when I was driving, the check engine light just came on. I didn't notice anything different in the engine or anything else for that matter, and lets face it, I know there are a million and one sesors on these new cars, so what easy fix should I be looking for? Any advise is greatly appreciated.
Well, turns out Auto Zone was prohibited from doing free code readings in California. Oh well. I just took a look around and discovered that the battery is still origional, and the guy who owned it before me never once thought to clean the posts. Needless to say, the "+" posts was completely corroded. I couldn't even see the posts itself. Cleaning it took care of it. Thanks anyhow.
Cleaning the battery post probably did not turn off the llight but if you disconnected the battery then it reset it and turned it off. If you have a problem the light will come back on in a few days.

Really, i though reseting the computer requires more than just disonnecting the power. My bronco has a whole series of steps to reset the codes....just curious...
Disconnecting the negitive cable has been the alternate method for clearing the codes for a long time, I'm not sure what you have been doing to clear them.
