Question 2001 ranger edge 4+4

I have a 2001 ranger with a 19.5 gallon gas tank and was wondering how many miles other ranger owners are getting per tank. thanks

I have never checked tank milage. I usually get around 28mpg in the summer and 23 in the winter.

I've got 235 miles on this tank and I have to get gas TODAY because my light is on. I have been disgusted with the fuel economy of my Ranger since I bought it in October. If I had known it would be this bad, I would have gone ahead and bought the F-150.

garr......I've been told that if you install new O2 sensors, replace the spark plugs and wires, add an aftermarket free-flowing air intake kit, and service your Ranger regularly, you will get better gas mileage.

BUT...all this adds up to LOTS of money, and it MIGHT NOT really increase fuel economy. If it does, it might only be 1-2 miles per gallon difference.

My problem is the automatic transmission and the 4.10 gears that come with the off-road package. I think that if I had the 3.73s and a manual transmission, I would be closer to 17 mpg in town and 20 on the interstate...and that wouldn't be too bad.

Oh well, live and learn is what they say. My next truck will be a diesel.

I track the gas mileage on my truck - well, to some extent.

I have a 2000 Ranger with a 4.0L V6 and I get 280 miles before I have to fill it up again. These are mostly highway miles as I have a pretty significant commute to work each day. According to my little manual, I have a 19.5 gallon gas tank. However, I've never put more than 17.5 gallons in my tank. (I fill it up when the little Check Gauge light comes on). So - I'm getting 14.4 mpg.

I USED to get 300 miles before I had to fill up again, and have only noticed a decrease in efficiency this winter.

My fiance and I are convinced that they are doing something to the gasoline this winter, because he has also noticed a decrease in his car's gas mileage as well.

Just my $0.02.

My 01 3.0 5-spd Automatic gets 20mpg. Slightly better in summer months. Gas mileage drops on all cars in the cold weather, so I wouildn't worry about that. #1 cause of poor fuel mileage...........
Driving Habits. Just my .02

HAHAHA!

Yes, I bet the reason my gas mileage is poor is due to my driving style! I'm not the best driver. (Hey, I can't help it - I'm a woman).

If I keep the pedal off the floor board when accelerating I usually average about 15-16 mpg @75 when I go home for the weekends, and pretty close to 20 at 60 mph.

You have to keep in mind that I have a 5spd instead of a auto.

Cool 2001 ranger edge 4+4

My 85 has a little smaller tank (16 gal) then the newer trucks but when I bought it in 97 two weeks later I drove from Camp Pendleton, CA to Norfolk, VA and was getting about 275 miles to the tank. I am now getting around 225 on a good day. I also have over 200K miles on the truck and when I was getting 275 to a tank I had 31 X 10.50 tires on it and when I went to 225 was after I put 33 X 12.5.

I have an 02 FX4 with the 5-speed, and am getting 15, just as the tag said I would. My last Ranger (97, 3.0, 5-speed, 4x4, 3.73) got MAYBE 17-18 to the gallon. The one b4 that (95, 4 cyl, 5-speed, 4x2) also got 17-18. If I was going to build a truck from the ground up, it would have been the FX4, only with a blown 514 of nitrous. I got a lead foot, love the beefy 2nd gear scratch, and drive it like I stole it. But then I'd really be complaining about gas mileage. If I wanted good gas mileage I wouldn't have bought a truck. God bless the USA.

I always use Chevron fuel because of it's quality. But the other day, I was in a hurry and so I filled up at a Marathon station. My gas mileage on that tank improved to 15.8 miles per gallon. That's a 1.5 MPG increase, just by using different fuel. There are all kinds of variables that will lead to different readings from different parts of the country.

Bottom line is, DO NOT buy a Ranger because you assume it will use less fuel. I have learned the hard way that the ONLY advantage to a Ranger is being able to whip it into parking spots easier.
