I got a code reader for my 96 f250 351w 5sp 4x4 and i got 542
542 = Fuel pump open, bad ground or always on - - Power / Fuel Pump Circuits.
my question is what does that mean both my pumps work and the only thing i can think of is that when i was changing out my crapped out turn signal arm i turned the key forward with out the tank selector pluged in to make sure the arm worked before i put it all back together and the fuel gauge went to over full would that throw that code or am i way off base?
Never take the Neg battery cable off to clear the codes unless you replace a sensor as it will set another code and then your computer will have to learn all over again.
To clear the codes ground the STI wire and turn on the key, when the MIL (CEL) starts to flash remove the ground from the STI wire and the codes will be gone.
