1993 4.0 fuel pump code??!!

1993 4.0 fuel pump code??!!

I have a 1993 Ranger with a 4.0 V6 4x4 and the check engine light keeps comming on and it comes up as code 542, 543. These codes are 542=Fuel pump open, bad ground or always on, 543=Fuel pump monitor circuit shows no power - Power / Fuel Pump Circuits. What the heck does this mean? If my fuel pump had a bad ground wouldn't it not work? The only thing i can think of is its a flat bed and when i pulled the bed off mabe there was a ground strap or something. Any help would be awsome.....

Sounds like a bad wire to the pump or a bad FP relay, I would start with testing for power at the pump while the wires are wiggled, then the same with the ground.
