Exclamation Code 542

My '95 Explorer just died on the road. My code sensor gives code 542. Where do you suggest I start? Fuel Pump or PCM? Something else?

Any help woul dbe greatly apprecaited.

I've owned my Ford since '96 and it has never given me trouble till now. I'm sure this is minor, no?

Welcome to FTE. Hope we can help.

You happened to post in the 3.8/4.2 V6 forum, when the Explorer has the 4.0 V6.
Lots of differences in the motor but the code would be the same:

542
Fuel pump open, bad ground or always on - - Power / Fuel Pump Circuits

I have no first hand experience but would gather you're going to have to go looking at the fuel pump and wiring.

You might want to check the Explorer forum to see if anybody there has seen this before. Maybe something seen from time-to-time in the Explorer wiring harness and/or fuel pump.

Best of luck-
