I filled my tank with premium gas, put the cap back on and drove out of the lot and immediately my 98 Expy started running like crap. I came to this board and read the posts about O2 sensors, etc. I tried disconnecting the battery cable, which helped inititally--but the check engine light would come back on.
I thought maybe water in the gas-so I ran out and got some additive. That helped for awhile--then the light would come on. I went to the parts store-Advance Auto Parts in Colorado--and they suggested changing the gas cap. Well, to make a long story shorter--put a new gas cap on and have not had any problem since. Sometimes it is the simplest and cheapest solution that fixes a major headache.
That's definitely one of the first things to check when the light comes on... especially after a fill-up. Glad you got it fixed without major costs being incurred.
I have a 97 expy; and need to have my MAF sensor replaced. How much is involved in the removal and replacement of this part. Is it any easy part to replace or is it complex.
