Fuel Cap Replacement
My wife lost the fuel cap on our 97 Expedition. Went to Autozone, bought an aftermarket cap and since then the Check Engine Light has been on. The fuel vapor code is on, had Autozone clear code twice after purchasing aftermarket cap and the check engine light still comes back on. I was told that the after market caps don't have the correct vapor spec's causing check engine light to come on and that I should purchase one from Ford dealership. Anyone heard of this before?

The cap could just be defective I would take the cap back to the store & explain what
started to happen after you bought their cap, & just ask them to replace it.

You are correct about cap replacement. I had a gmc yucon and replaced mine with aftermarkret cap also. It kept turning the se light on till I replaced it with factory gas cap. My mechanic told me later most aftermarket caps do that.

I'm on my second aftermarket fuel cap and the check engine light is still on. I also thought maybe the first was defective and had it replaced. I will try a Ford cap next. Hopefully that will fix the problem. Thanks for your replies!
