I was on my way home yesterday from being away for the weekend, 3 hours from home. Had stopped for gas about 100 miles prior to this happening. All was fine, when suddenly my Service Engine Soon light came on. As luck would have it, I had to take a detour to the highway being backed-up (CB radios and 18-wheelers are so helpful at times). On this detour, just as the light came on, there was an Advance Auto Parts store, so I stopped to have them read the code. Came up P1405. He couldn't tell me more than something with the emissions system. He suggested taking the gas cap off and putting it back on again - perhaps it wasn't getting a good seal. When I got home, I pulled the (-) battery cable and let it sit about 15 minutes, reconnected the cable and the light was out. Drove into work this morning and the light did not reappear. I've read something about a DPFE sensor related to this code. Where is this sensor located, or do you think the gas cap could have been the culprit? Looking for suggestions. Unless the light comes back on, I'm not going to worry too much, but am curious as to why it would come on. Thanks!
Thanks for the info. I did a search, but guess I wasn't looking hard enough. Found the issue. One of the hoses was disconnected from that sensor - partially cut and rotted away. Going to replace both of them plus the sensor. Figure with 114,000+ on the clock, better to be safe than sorry.
Final note about this. I replaced both hoses along with the sensor. Problem gone. When inspecting the sensor, the rear port had completely sealed shut - looks like the inside melted and oozed out, eventually cooling and sealing the opening completely shut. I'm guessing that is what caused the hose to come off (pressure backing up with nowhere to go). But, Expy's fixed and running strong again. This site rocks for info!
