Hey, New to the boards and the ford world but could use your help.
I have a 95 F150 4x4 with the 5.0 in it. When you push on the throttle to accelerate at a light or while driving the engine bogs down. If you hold it anywhere on the throttle , it will bog for about 3-5 seconds and then it will feel like it downshifts, but its actually just starting to run smoothly again.
Anybody else had this problem
Any info would help, check engine light does come on but have had it hooked up to a snap on computer and it cant read it but it does say its running really rich.
when was it tuned up last? like mentioned checked fuel pressure and perhaps change the fuel filter. its located under the driver seat mounted on the inside of the frame rail.
hey, thanks for the suggestions... I'm gunna work on pulling the codes tonight hopefully... Fuel filter was changed within the last 250km and at the same time plugs/wires...
I'm not thinking fuel pressure would be an issue if its running really rich? to me that would mean its got lots of pressure?
Oh and one other thing it gets terrible fuel mileage.
checking the fuel pressure is important. anything above 45psi is an issue and resulting from a bad FPRegulator. cheaper to test then to replace parts that are not the cause.
121 seems to be something with the tps sensor but it more talks with the voltage to it than something wrong with the sensor, unless it means the sensors toast.
172 is that its rich, which i already knew, lol
and 225 is something to do with the knock sensor not responding
Ignore the other codes the TPS code is most if not all of your problem. You can test it using data from here.. Ford Fuel Injection Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) you are looking for the proper open and closed voltages as well as a smooth transition through the whole range with no dead spots. If the sensor fails on any of these replace it.
Well I seem to have made it somewhat worse now. Pulled off the TB to put the new TPS senseor in... all went well, put it back together.
While i was in there I cleaned it all up, but now the throttle wont close all the way. With the new sensor in there, it gives me a code 122, instead of the 121 and the code is on 99% of the time now. Also the truck wont go above 50 with the new sensor in there, but who knows if that has something to do with the throttle not being able to close... ugh!
EDIT: Also getting code 998 now as well. but no other codes.

Reason: Forgot to add something!
Okay so heres where i'm at now. First sensor that was in there was bunk, was reading around 3volts when closed and wouldnt read any less than that, and the throttle wouldnt close. So went and got a new one, .98 volts at closed 4.88 at WOT put it all back together. Feels great, EXCEPT: tranny wont shift right away, holds in the gear for a really long time, feels like its slipping almost etc.
So unplugged the battery to reset everything, came inside for a bit, went back out and hooked it back up, now it wont start... ugh
