Soap question

I remember the drawstring an the tin lid that used to come on them. I like the new style. Sometimes the tin lid would NEVER fit back on! I still never measure, just dump a little in. I think I get about 6 months out of a can. I wash my vehicle every week. Hate to see it dirts and car washes bite. Never gets clean. I wax often too. Probably between 1-2 times a month when weather permits. Glad to see I could help. I also use Mother's Car Wash sometimes in the liquid. I think that works pretty well. Try Luster Pad metal polish, I think you'll love that stuff.

Good point; it WAS a royal PIA to put back on. Hey, guess why I couldn't find the stuff on the 'net using DuPont in the search string? They don't make it any more! They apparently sold the entire No. 7 line to Cyclo Industries (cyclo.com). I went to their site, left a question (where can I buy?) and got a very prompt, thorough and polite response today. I found that both Ace and True Value stores sell No. 7, as well as a couple others. Hallelujah!

7pm. Just got done with 3 hours of straight shoveling. OBSCENE snowfall; about 24" total but hard to gauge due to the drifts. I'm too old for this sh... What did you wind up with? F250? You can just drop a plow on that thing! (Heck, you don't even HAVE to plow or shovel -- just go!)

I didn't know Dupont sold out. Huh, we've been getting the No. 7 line in stock on a regular basis and I never look at the cans. I'll take a good look at the can tomorrow when I go in.

We got just about three feet. That really bites. I don't have a plow. You're right, I didn't need one. I walked to work today. The lot where I keep the new truck was not plowed this morning and I didn't feel like digging it out. I only live 1/4 mile from the race shop. When I got home at 7:00 with three feet of snow on the truck now, That really bit. Brushed the snow off, put it in 4H not 4L and cruised right throughthe parking lot and put the truck down at the shop. Walking tomorrow too. Never spun even in the ruts. Have yet to put the truck in 4L. I love this truck. Was going to get an F150, but the price of the F250 was almost the same. Bigger is always better.

I have used Murphy's Oil soap to wash my vehicles. Just a couple ounces in a bucket of water will do. It doesn't suds up, but kinda flows the dirt off. Plus it won't strip off wax.
I learned about using it, in a Popular Mech. article a few years back.

Now I'm on a mission. I've been to all (I think) of the True Value and Ace Hardware stores in my area and I still can't find the elusive No. 7 powder! My hopes were raised at a few places because I saw some No. 7 products, but no go on the car wash. I asked the store clerks about it and all I got was gibberish type answersI was wondering if anyone else has had any luck?

Hi Rock,

I did find it at a local Ace Hardware store (one can left, ironically). Got raped pretty good on the price ($3.30) relatively speaking, since I used to get the stuff for a buck 99. My 64oz. Blue Coral goo from Wally World was only $2.97 (now for sale, CHEAP!).

There were a couple other stores listed which I wasn't familiar with. I'd tell you what they were if I had the e-mail info (wrong computer). Anyway, go to the Cyclo site (www.cyclo.com) and leave them a note, telling them your plight. They gave me a very fast and detailed answer, and I'm sure they'll do the same for you. Good luck!

Mike

Hey Mick,
I've been trying to answer this thread for about a week. Keep forgettin! Gettin older, you know. If we remember No.7 Cardboard top and can, you know we're not kids anymore . Anyway, I checked one of the cans I had on the retail shelf in our parts store. I almost did not believe it. Can says made by Armor All company. I swear. It also says something like made for Turtle Wax Co. by Armor All Co. or vice versa or something like that. I forget exactly. I will look again to clarify for you.

We sell it for $2.25 before discount.

OK, like I said, I'm on a mission. So here's my plan of attack:

I contact Cyclo and act real important and talk about my "fleet" of vehicles ('98 Ranger and '93 Sable beater), and tell them that I just can't seem to keep the "fleet" clean, and may I please talk to someone about establishing a commercial account because I just have to have good 'ol No. 7 powder. Then, if they fall for that, I order a couple pails of the stuff either directly from them or thru a local store which they will hook me up with. I might spend a little (lot) more than I originally set out to, but now it's a principle thing. I want that powder!

Jimmie,

You may just have some old inventory. I wouldn't be surprised if No. 7 went to Armor All/Turtle Wax for awhile after DuPont sold the line off, but I can assure you that Cyclo is indeed making it now. The can not only has their name, it also has corrected instructions ("heaping tablespoon" now). I also like your price better than Ace, but that's the cost of convenience and living in NJ. As for age, yeah, we're getting there. But we're WISER, right?

Rock-man, you're crackin' me up with this! You really don't need to do that, the girl at Cyclo gave me the name of a distributor as well, who sold large containers (up to a 4 gallon pail, if memory serves) as well as the cans. If you want to wait one more day, I'll PM the e-mail to you tonight when I get home. The dist. is in NJ, but I'm sure they'll ship to CT. Let me know.

Mike

Mick-

Your right, I guess it is getting a little too personal with me. To think that a car wash brand I haven't even seen in several years would be weighing on my mind like this now.

Seriously, I am willing to go the multi-gallon pail route. I've got my own uses for it, and my brother has a few trucks and some construction equipment, so the stuff will get consumed at a pretty good clip.

Looking forward to your PM. Jersey is nice and close, so shipping won't kill me. Thanks buddy!
