Well i learned my lesson from driving while mad. Last night I went onto my favorite trail to put a smile on my face, I ended up on an unfamiliar trail, well it was rough, very rough, and I ended up at the bottom of a step, snow covered hill.about a 45-60 degree angle. theres enough trees to winch out if you had great finess. Ill take a picture of the trail after my truck is at the top. would inch by icnh winch be my best chance. BTW no tow truck can reach me at all. I have a friend with a jeep im gonna talk to today and see if he can help. the hill is about 200 yards long also. If any of you guys live by Stafford,Va and if you're looking for a challange (or a laugh) please call me at 540-903-3919 after 2:30pm.
Thx for your help
Tim
P.S. the screen name explains it.
i did the same thing once. only difference was i had a set of super boggers on the truck. so i spent the night (was to tired to try it). the next morning i let the rooster tails fly. after doing that for about 15 mins she finally grabbed on some rocks and made it the least 20 feet.
If the hill is that steep with snow and trees, slow. If you turn sideways in the BII under power you will flip, especially if you have a suspension lift. I would deflate my tires as much as possible (15 pounds) and try a straight track. I would put a cable on the front bumper and secure it so a buddy can quickly wrap it to a tree if you get off center.
FWIW: If you are slidding sideways down the hill at any decent speed and hit a hidden log with your rim, your axle will break and your wheel will pop off. It happens.
This sounds like a good place for studded snow tires. If I have to stop, I try to aim for small fallen logs that (being frozen into the ground) act like chock blocks. If they are rotted the worse thing is you sink into them. Plus, if you have studded tires, they can give good starting traction if they have some bark on them.
my tires are m/t and are pinned for studs. i nearly rolled it, but i turned the wheel and took a hit instead. the studs sound pretty good. im working on geting a "come-a-long" i think thats what there called but ill try to get pictures and maybe thatll show you what i was against.
