I am getting ready for my first time running my truck on some local trails (Hollister Hills, CA). I have never been, and do not know anyone that does this. I plan on staying mostly on the GREEN and BLUE marked trails. If it matters, I will be doing this in a mostly stock F250 Diesel w/33's. Are there any tips you can give me, as far as do's and dont's....and maybe some helpful tools to bring, etc. Thanks in advance.
if you do a search, there is a very extensive list of things that you could bring it covers about everything. as for dos and donts, dont go anywhere that you only see jeeps going, as its probly to narrow, and make sure theres someone with you with a good sized vehicle also.
Your truck will be very hard to pull out if you get stuck in anything...but you shouldn't because its probably not too wet there. Dry and hotter than hell here... shouldn't be too much different there.
Take a tow strap, hi lift, shovel, and theres a lot of other stuff that would help too. search Google for something like "4x4 recovery equipment" or something....
ahh man! hollister hills is fun! i went once with dad back when i was a young kid and we had a blast. that was back when dad was in his jeep days and we wheeled a scrambler.
ask jopes (if you can get ahgold of him, havent seen him in a while) he goes there quite often! heck, might be able to wheel with him! he'd be an awesome wheelin buddy!
all i can say is, take lots of water (one gallon for each person for each day you plan to be out there, thats my rule of thumb). if nothing else you can use it for coolant if need be!
if you start hopping your tires... STOP. this is where i'd say 90% of all breakage comes from. back up if possible and try another line.
dont be afraid to say no or pull a line if you are using a winch, or someone elses.
dont go alone!
if you can trailer the truck there so if something happens you can tote it home!
