ok guys, this was my second big stuck, but by far the worst. started out be going to my local mud and trail spot thats usaully fun and kinda easy, but hard if you want it to be. well i was wanting to try something, went to the edge of a drop of that went down to the river bed. now this is also right after all the snow had melted, so it was soft everywhere. but i had been doing good so far. so, i eased my noise down the ledge and hit the bottem and started sinking! when i got out the front was sunk, i couldn't see my front tires or bumper. no biggy i thought, threw a strap to my buddy at the top. not happening. so i looked for an ancor point out front (where my winch is) found a tree stump/trunk thing and strapped to that. winched and gave gas, dug down more. by now i had the whole truck sunk almost halfway up the doors. not good. so then i pulled out the high lift, jacked the frontup and out, shoved logs and stuff. no good. tried and tried again. dug and dug. blew out a rear u-joint. finally found some long logs and stuck them under there and winched on to the logs. then did my first on trail repair with the u-joint, (yes i have broken stuff off-road before, but in the past i always limped home and fixed it.) disconnected the winch and gunned it! did and wide sweep to get it turned around and started up another hill, engine singing at 6000rpm (crappy all-terrains, got to keep the tread clean), and started to slide back down. well it was dark by now and i was starting to get alittle frustrated. so i stopped pulled the winch out again and found a tree. the problem was that there were lots of other trees in the way that were to small to winch off of, but to big to run over. so this is where i got to thinking, well my truck is sitting alittle sideways on the hill and the winch line is parallel with the truck. so to get around the trees i would winch up to the small tree, goose the gas which would spin the tires and slide the truck side way like a pendulum (SP?) does that makes any sence? hard to explain, but i was proud of my idea, and i got out 4 1/2 hours later i was back out on the main trail. i worked that winch so hard the whole time, with out so much as a hickup. i love the mile marker winches now. i was iffy at first with them, but after this one, i stand by it now. need a new cable now though. i kinked it and frayed it in a few places, that make me a little nervous. i was looking for a reason to buy a new syn line anyways. i'll just keep the old one as a back up. also i am going to get a new 12,000 pound winch for the front and move my 9000lb to the back. i would have been out in 15min if i had one back there. sorry for the long post. anyone got better ideas on how i could have gotten out? also the ground we found later was about some sand on about 4" of hard clay that had watery muck under it all.
also which line would you guys recommend? am steel or x-line?

Sweet, sounds like fun. That is why you should always carry explosives with you, could have helped with the extraction. I've never run syn but I've heard good things about am steel.
NO KIDDING!! i would have gripped about it more, but he was a huge help with digging and getting out.
Pro... you are nuts! i was getting really frustrated at one point, and if i had explosives i think i might have used them on the truck! ok not really, i couln't do that to my truck. but i might try carrying them in the truck now.
also some decent mud tires would have helped. maybe some boggers! ah if only i had money.
Pro...i always crack up when you mention using explosives. I had a few bad experiences with gunpowder in my very young years...Advice to young children(and some "adults"), old damp black gunpowder eventually explodes, getting a closer look by hovering above it to see why the lighter in your hand isnt doing the job is not a good idea Fortunately all i lost was my eyebrows, eyelashes and some ego
well, should be in the next month or so. then i'll be stepping up to 35" mud terrains. and soon after i am buying a set of 35" boggers for the rear two, and then i have mud terrains for everyday driving, and when i go wheeling, i swap out the rear wheels and tires to the boggers for that extra help. can't wait. i hate these all terrain 33" with a passion!
thats a bad ordeal texan but atleast you got out....i myself am a firm believer in its going to either blow or go. so that stubborness normally gets me into a worse situation. but hey up untill that point its fun
HAHAHA cool story you need some pictures man
get a disposable camera next time you go out.
Sounds a little like my story rain a little snow and a hill
you can't get up. I wish I would've had a winch
yea, i had a camera, and took pics. they are getting developed today, i will post them as soon as i get them. one problem though, it was an old camera and it has this auto cover over the front and gets jammed up sometimes, so i may have half black pics!! i hate that camera! i am saving for a digital soon.
Good point Thomsen. Old dynamite gets a bit shakey. My grandad would use his up on the gophers in the back field once it got up in years. No, believe it or not, I'm not joking. Damn, that was a great man!
Time to get a disposable camera.. They work great for offroading. I took my digital with me when me and my friends went mud running on our atvs, and boy that was a mistake.
