tarter replacement
Well I bit the bullet an replaced the starter on my E350 w/460ci.
Pain in the a$$ to get the top bolt, but job done.
The old starter was using every little available cranking amp just to turn the starter it self. In fact when hooked to cheap jumper cables the old starter made them smoke.
It was so bad that I couldn't turn the van off if it was hot because it wouldn't restart.
Today I drove the van 5 hours in 90F. Turned it off to get gas and it RESTARTED.
FYI the old starters housing had holes in it, from the heat off the exhaust manifold, or at least on that side where it was closest to the heat. Wonder if that had anything to do with it??!!
Just thought I'd share. Now to remove the ac evaporator.
