ok here the deal, i took my truck to the ford dealership because my ac had stopped blowing cold air or i thaught it had stoped anyway. they told me the compresser was shot and they wanted $1000 to fix it. being that i cant afford that i figured i would see if i could do it my self. now heres the kicker i was driving back home the other day and just for the hell of it i turned on the ac and all it was working fine, so good infact that i couldnt even turn it all the up or i would get to cold. now what ive found since then is that is only works sometimes it irratic lets just say. it will be working just fine then start blowing hot air all the sudden, i shut it off and then check it every now n then to see if itll work and eventually it does.
im thinking its an electical problem because its so irratic like a short in the system. if this is the case how do i go about finding the short?
if anybody has any other theorys as to what is causing this please let me know because im stumped!
where is this high/low switch located?
and to check for 12 volts at the pump do i simply check the terminals coming of the compresser? i havnt even looked at the compresser so there may not even be terminals i am just assuming. and by "pump" do you mean the compesser?
your help is greatly appreciated
jump the switches by taking a paper clip, straightening it out and inserting it into the plug.
there is one switch on the canister on the firewall on the top. you need to remove all the electrical crap in the way to get to it. (remember to disconnect the battery)
the other is on the check valve by the battery. you'll see a little thing coming up from the line, and it plugs into the side.
if you cant find them, take a picture of you engine bay and ill point them out. my trucks not here so i cant do it.
as for the pump, crawl underneath with a test light and poke around. its on the passengers side on the bottom of the motor. i dont remember exactly where the connections were.
