hello there...yes I realize I just brought a post back from the dead. That being said, I had the exact same question. I hail from the diesel world so I am no stranger to Fords ESP. You pretty much have to have it if you dont have 5 gallon buckets of cash laying around. (or a heavy duty lift in your garage to pull cabs with). Anyhow Im a v10 convert. Just bought a 2008 lariat with 37k on it. Truck is super super nice but it has quite a bit of rust underneath the front end. It was used as a plow truck for a few years. Its crazy because the truck probably has three scratches on it, the interior is immaculate, its loaded to the gills with factory sub, backup camera etc. The previous owner must have wanted to plow in style. Im rolling around the idea of getting the esp. I know the v10s are reliable and pretty maintenance free. I know the torqueshifts are bulletproof if taken care of fluid wise. I worry about the studs.. They look terrible now as like i said there is quite a bit of rust anyways. Im guessing from road salt. I wont do the repair myself as Ive about grown tired of working on vehicles other than basic stuff...alternator, plugs etc..I'm done pulling motors, transmissions etc, cussing at parts for hours on end. It seems that the labor involved to do the studs would cover the warranty should it happen, plus it would cover the usual stuff that needs attention every now and then...AC compressor, coil pack whatever. The warranty says it covered exhaust manifolds, but also says in the fine print at the bottom exhaust system excluded. Im assuming they mean muffler. I actually emailed a dealer online that sells the esp and they acted like they had no idea or how to look it up. I guess I could call ford but they would probably tell me that i would have to have a policy already, and THEN they could tell me if its covered or not.
yes you have to have it inspected, but it doesnt have to be by ford. It can be any SAE cert tech. They are still in tact and are not leaking. They may make it several years, they may NEVER break..i was just curious.
chances are they will at some point thanks to the long manifold and 8mm studs. ford and others have this problem. even Toyota of which I have one in my shop right now. 3 broken studs on the right side of their Tacoma v6.
