I was told that also, but I put one on anyways. The salemean told me that personal use is ok. Its just the commercial use that really wears things out. I even put a 2" lift on it with adjustable struts. My advice is don't worry about it, unless you are going to do lots of plowing.
Other than the 6.2L trucks, the F150 is equipped with EPAS - electronic steering. Plow use is contraindicated on trucks with this system because of the significant electrical demand of constant turning, combined with low engine RPM and thus low alternator output.
As with anything, they have to prove that the aftermarket accessories caused the damage. Expect a fight on anything involving the suspension, EPAS, front axle, potentially even cooling/motor/transmission.
If you do decide to do it, remember this is a half-ton truck. Keep the plow size reasonable, minimize electric draw, consider a bigger alternator and/or additional batteries, keep the engine RPM up, and equip the truck for it - heavy payload package, etc.
My 2010 does not have the EPAS, so that wasn't an issue for me. Other ppl have said that the Snoway plows work good with EPAS, because of their EIS technonogly. I can't vouch for it, but this is what I read from other posts here at FTE.
Will Ford void my F150 warranty if I put a snow plow on it? Salesman told me yes but I don't see anything about this in the warranty documentation.
Hi pcm57,
If the installation or use of any aftermarket product causes the failure of a part on your truck, the cost of the repair and any related damages are not covered by your warranty. If you have questions, I recommend reaching out to the service manager of your dealership directly.
