I just took my 2150 ford carb apart and put in a new power valve, needle and seat, acc pump and gaskets. now my float is stuck. gas is flowing out of the bowl vents. i am going to have to take it apart again. the problem i had was the truck was hard to start and if it didnt fire and stay running after the first couple of tries the bowl would go empty and i would have to pour gas in the bowl to get it to start. i thought maybe the float was sticking and was not letting any fuel in when it was cranking. now i noticed that with the fuel line disconnected and i crank it over no fuel squirts out of the line. it should have enough fuel pressure while cranking to make fuel come out of the line right? it has a new fuel pump because that was my first guess, but that didnt help. once its running it runs great? what gives?
You should definitely be getting fuel from the line when you crank it, if you crank it for a long time do you eventually get fuel? Is the battery too weak to crank the motor quickly? You might have gotten a pump with a defective check valve so the fuel may not be staying high in the line. I would say may you didn't get it back in correctly but if I am reading this right if you get the motor to start then you get flooded you because the bowl overfills which means it does eventually pump fuel. Do you have a kinked or leaky fuel line maybe?
i was thinking the same thing. maybe i have a kinked fuel line. the problem with the flooding just happened tonight, but the no fuel when cranking has been there since i bought the truck 5 mo ago. the fuel pump is only two months old. the battery is new and it cranks fast. i could crank for 15 seconds and still no fuel coming out of line off the pump.
fixed it! i took the inlet line off the pump and blew compressed air through it. the filter in the tank must have been plugged up. trucks starts great now!
Hey that's good news! There must have been alot of crud in there to stop the sock up. I don't want to rain on yer parade but I wonder if it's just a matter of time before it gets clogged up again. You may want to consider purging the tank.
what im worried about is the case that hold the tank in. it is the plastic side mount that has the metal shroud holding it. the metal shroud is rusted very bad. i use motorcycle tie downs with ratcheting buckles to support the tank if the case gives way. i dont know who makes a replacement shroud. i dont want to get carried away because this truck only serves my needs once and a while to pick up supplies. thanks for the info.
