I have a new carb, and a real rusty gas tank, today it was running and started pouring gas out the carb, we knew it was a stuck float, we took the carb apart and the thing was loaded with rust deposits, the fuel filter didnt pick the crap up, so would rust being in it cause the float to stick. Anyways 120 bucks later I have a new gas tank, first off I am going to run all new gas line. Thanks for any and all help guys!!
I had a similar problem after getting new gas tank. A peice of rust stuck the needle open. I was on the road at that! I switched to the other tank, banged on the side of the carb and eventually it celared.
I installed a new electric fuel pump, with a filter at the pump and two in line filters at the carb in case the first one plugged up I could simply take it out and bypass it on the fly. I replaced all filters after two tanks of gas and all has been good since.
