1986 f150 ECU Problem
i have a 1986 f150 with the 300-6 it has the feedback carberator and all the fancy lil electronic crap i love to hate! so this truck i bought has 40k original miles and is like new in and out and i dont want to butcher anything, even though i hate computer controlled cars its too clean and original! my problem is it runs great at an idle and for the first bit of RPM's through the gears but as soon as you get about half way in its power range it falls on its face and kinda misses similar to what i know as timing not advancing in an older car, but this is electronic and i have replaced the distributor, control module, etc so i started looking at MAP sensor and throttle position sensors and did some testing and im not getting any power sent to them from the computer, absolutly nothing, i got a second opinion and they said my ECU was shot, any suggestions, or things i should look at before i get a new ECU? i havent tried pulling any codes, probably wouldnt be a bad idea, yesterday i found a local auto supply that could get me a reman ECU for 88.00 so i figured what the hell and if that dont work i may have more questions or codes to pull, and yes it is an EEC IV! thank you for the reply, figured asking fellow ford truck owners might be a good idea!
