My 81 F100 was built in Canada, and I was wondering if there are any significant differences between them and American-made ones. I have heard that their emission laws are similar to California's, but I don't know if that technology made it to the trucks or not. None of the calibration codes on mine match up with anything on Alldata's database. The emission sticker shows one line going to the vac advance, even though the apparent original one is a double line. The closest Alldata diagram shows two lines going to the dizzy, one from "S" on the carb, and the other one from manifold vacuum. The original double line on mine (1red, 1yellow) both went to the carb (S and 3).
Anyone else got a Canadian truck? I'm not really asking anyone to solve my vacuum issues, I'm just curious how many of these are out there, and if there are significant differences.
The Canadian built trucks would have been built the same as the US trucks, in that the emission standards would depend on where it was being shipped for it's first sale.
Canada may have had different emission standards than the US 49 state standards, but if the truck was being shipped to the US, it was built to meet US standards.
Yea my 82 F-250 Is also Canadian and i Dont really see a difference in it sept metric bolts and all that b.s. but yea emissions suck take it off espeically if your running a 300 which i am also it Clogs up a lil power.
So what was the point of maintaining a plant in another country? We could have easily made them here and shipped them there or vis versa.
The plant in canada offered jobs to canadians, just like the US plants offered jobs in the USA.
As for building in one country and shipping across the border, they did that. Some trucks sold in canada were built in the US, and some trucks sold in the US were built in canada. This has something to do with the US/Canada trade agreements.
Not all trucks sold in California were built there, but if they were sent to California, they had to be equipped with Ca emission standards. I'm sure some trucks were built in Ca, and shipped elsewhere, so they weren't required to meet Ca emission standards.
My 83 f250hd is Canadian. Built to us emission standards. 300 6 non catalyst. Got the Canadian leaf above the specifications sticker on the door, a neat little tid bit. This truck was originally for sale in Connecticut.

Mine was Ordered in Cali,Built in Cali, and sold in Cali. So,it originally had Cali Emissions.I'm not sure if all the Emissions stuff is there or not,as I don't know what the emissions package contained in 1980,but I have alot of Vacuum Hoses.
Just for future reference,Emissions standards seem to change every year, and the emissions for one year might be different than another.81-Explorer has the same Cali Emission 4.9 300 as me,however his has about two times as much stuff as mine does.Looking at his truck,I would hate to have his Emissions setup.
