Sounds like maybe a shorted battery or wire if the cables got hot. My alternator went dead and that drained my battery while I drove it. Lights came on dim, and I had the clicking you explained, that's common with a low battery on these trucks, for some reasons the relays hang open with an almost dead battery. May check you're hot cable to the starter, and wherever else it runs from the battery for cuts or rubbing. Most other wires would be fused if they shorted.
It's definately the fuse problem. One of your fuse must be short circuit. If this is not the problem then the spark plug must creating a problem check for then moisture on the spark plug.take your car to a good mechanic shop.
The problem im am imbarrist to say was the battery.
In all my years of repacing batteries I have never seen anything like it.
No warning signs, fuel pump running with no key in it,could not jump.
Been there and done that myself, reno. Only I didn't have this or any other forum to go to. I had to do it the old fashioned way and actually use the shop manuals to diagnoze. It was one of those duh!! moments when I finally found the cause.
It's kinda funny how these trucks handle an old battery. One day it's fine, the next it's toast. I went through that a couple of weeks ago. Loaded the kiddo in the rig to go to daycare, turn the key and nothing. The previous day it started right up without hesitation. $100 at the local Autozone for a new one
I thought mine was a battery, all was fine, went inside, came back out, barley started, that's when things went haywire. It quit me before I got home. I put in a different battery, not new, but one out of my old car. Everything fine for a day, then I started losing charge again. $200 at NAPa for an alternator fixed it.
