master cylinder senser

I went to start my 99 F-150 today and realized I left my lights on,oops. As I was cranking the engine I noticed smoke comming from the hood. It was the senser on the front of the master cylinder. Any Idea what it is and can I drive it to the parts store with out it being plugged in?

Go to Ford! Thats a recall for the faulty cruise control switch that is burning down F150s.

I would do what torkum said, after you unplugged the switch from the master cylinder.
