Hello all well I figured I would introduce my self and my name is Chris and I own 2 fords an 05 F150 and I have just bought a 90 F250. And my question is with the 250. It has a 5.0 liter in it with a 5 speed and it is 4x4. But when its idling it lopes, and I cant figure out what is causing the lope. Its almost like it is cammed up but idk. The motor only has 46,000 miles on it and I have (i think) all of the documents on the motor. But where could I start to figure out the loping issue? I was told that it mite be out of time a little but im not sure. So any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris
P.S. the check engine light is not on and it is not throwing any codes

Reason: forgot the check engine light
Maybe it is cammed up who knows lol. Start by checking your spark plugs. Is the electrode part black? Are they gapped correctly? So many little things that have a big effect.
Thanks guys I will start and pull the plugs tommorrow and mess with the timing on it. The motor did come complete from Advance auto and I dont see any papers saying it has a cam. And how would I know if the tps is bad or not?
Thanks,
Chris
The IAC is the main suspect here they get dirty and stick. The best solution is to remove and thoroughly clean it so the plunger moves freely, you'll have to remove the actuator from the valve to do this.
Thanks guys for the replies. I would have been back sooner but I lost my internet for a few. This may be a dumb question but what is the IAC and where can I find it on the truck?
thanks,
Chris

IAC means Idle Air Control valve. It is located on the thottle body itself. It's the cylinder looking thing.
well I thought I had it fixed. I took apart the iac and cleaned it up. Although it looked pretty new. And I put it back together and she idled pretty good sitting in the drive way. So I decided to drive into town and find out after she was good and warmed up. Well when I got back to the house it started again. all of the sudden it would idle up to 1000 for about 10 seconds then down to 500 and back and forth for a while, then back up to 1000 again. Could it be the tps is bad? Or what else should I check for?
Thanks,
Chris
Well I know that a bad TPS sensor can cause bucking, idle surging, sometimes even stalling. You should also check your air temperature sensor. It may cause poor idle when cold and surges when warm.
I don't know if your on a budget but every time I suspect things like that I just do trial and error. Buy stuff until I solve my problem. Just unscrew your air temperature sensor and clean it with carb cleaner if it has gunk on it. Trust me nothing will happen to it if you clean it. If you don't know where it is located tell me and i'll gladly take a pic.
