97' E350 V10 LONG CRANK

I have a 97' E350 v10 and on cold start will crank for a very long time before starting. Pressing gas pedal does not help. I'm thinking fuel pump.
Any ideas?

Started van today with a fuel pressure gauge hooked up and fuel pressure seems good. Maybe time for plugs?

Only on a cold start?
You might want to change/check the coolant temp sensor, it tells the computor the engine is cold and sets the injector pulses accordingly

Hope this helps

Also I check one spark plug. It was ok except It was a bosch, which I know Fords do not like. The original owner must have had them installed before I bought the van.

I wouldn't sweat the plugs right now.

If you try the coolant temp sensor with no improvement, I'd run a compression test when the engine is cold. This will rule out any mechanical issues. Remember - it needs 4 things to start: fuel, air, spark, and compression to run. A compression test will rule out 2 of the 4 (air & compression).

Keep us informed...

Replaced both the crank sensor and the coolant temp sensor. Still has same problem.

My first suspicion would be fuel pressure. I know you did a pressure test, but try cycling the key on-off before trying to fire it. That'll give the pump more time to build up pressure before cranking. You could also try firing it and turning it off right away, then restart. If it starts quickly the second time or after 'priming' the pump it's likely fuel pressure. Could be a leak, regulator, or probably the pump starting to go.

The fuel pressure will show 40psi instantly as soon as key turned then stay there while cranking.

Have you tried my start and restart test? It may point to a direction. I'd also check that the fuel press. regulator isn't leaking fuel to the vacuum line, would flood the motor when parked.

also, did this start suddenly or slowly worsen, was there anything done to the truck right before it started? Even something seemingly innocuous could be connected.
