Also the old style dakota IFS works pretty well on these trucks, power steering form a 79-83 Toyota 4x4 and you have a new front end. Stroke a 460 and you got it made.
Looks like my camaro clip width is not going to work. So im back to looking for front clip and motor/tranny options. If anyone has any ideas, the frame width is approx 32" in front of the body mounts.
You were thinking of using a maro front clip..........
One thing to consider is rebuilding the original straight axle, adding the yota steering...... nothing like keeping it simple. I went with a Crown Vic front clip in my 53M100 but after reading in the 48/60 forum: 1948 - 1960 F1, F100 & Larger F-Series Trucks - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums I would really do alot more thinking about keeping that straight axle in it unless you have to have race car handling.
i think i might try going with a jag front end if i can find one, the chrysler clips are another option but i hate chrysler so it would be a last resort.
all im going for is a safe, reliable, easy driving truck. I think the plan is to sell it in a year or two once i get the kinks worked out so low cost in the build is important to me. I can build 2 sbc to one sbf and 10 to one flathead so its kinda a no brainer
Beware that old trucks are a major money pit.........just don`t ask me how I know!
I wouldn`t start work on anything unless I plan to keep for a long while and get some use from, selling at a loss is always a good possibility.
so my brother and i discussed it and i guess theres a good chance that it will come up for sale without too much work done to it. Still too early to tell
still not sure what im gonna do with it, im doing the tranny upgrade on the 53 right now and im getting the urge to do the 48. If i could only make up my mind on what i want to do id be set.
