The reducer comes with the truck at no charge. Most Dealerships take them out of the receiver so they do not get stolen while sitting on the lot. Ask the Sales Manager or ask the mechanic where it is. Do not let them charge you for it.
Now that you mention it I remember our F-450 at work (2008) came with a 2.5" and had the adapter. We still had to swap out the hitch because it wasn't rated high enough for our boat trailer without weight distribution.
The adapter came with my 08 too; but, I recall reading that Ford quit providing them with the hitch at some point sorta of like glove box lamps, lamps on doors, insulated hoods, wheel well liners....... Someone figuring how to save a buck....
I plan to keep that 2-1/2" to 2" adapter sleeve when I trade trucks.
Wow, now that I re-read my post I guess I was being a knucke head. Leave comedy to the comedians. My appologies.
Anyway, I've had to pay for it. The reducer I bought from the RV dealership didn't work and was pounded enough to not look any way close to returnable. So that's $25 down the tubes. On the other had, the Ford reducer came in today and it slides in with no effort. I do need to get a longer pin.
May I ask why it was decided to "beat" the addapter into place? Seem's like a light should have went off! Hum, something is not right here, maybe this is not the right addapter????

Never had a need for a reducer before so I was thinking it should be a snug fit. Therefore, my gental tapping became a bit more forceful until the thought came that something must be wrong.
New guy here..Hello to all. I had to go back to the dealer for my reducer as my truck did not have one. Salesman just took one from truck on the lot and gave it to me. I ordered a fifth wheel ball from Reese online , good deal works great. However they do not have a 2 1/2 inch receiver for pullin a heavy regular trailer nor does Ford ?? Now you should not pull a heavy trailer with a 2 inch receiver... so what to do? Where can i find one? My internet searches have turned up nothing. Eany help would be welcomed. Thanks...
I took possession of my order-built 2011 F-250 on May 6 and it came with a 2-1/2 to 2" adapter.
If yours did not, get the one from Ford. I've read the Ford hitch has rounded corners and most adapters have square corners, so they don't fit.
Happened to be in the parts department. They said mine came with the adapter because it's a King Ranch.

Welcome to FTE. Remember that trucks have been safely pulling heavy trailers with a 2 inch hitches and receivers for decades. It's only been this model year where the 2 and a half inch receiver is being offered as OEM. I forget what the actual ratings are when comparing the 2 inch to the 2 1/2 inch but you will find the 2 inch hitch is very capable (I think at least 1200 tongue and 15000 towing). The 2 1/2 inch bumps that up some. Unless you are going into that heavy range, you will be well within specs.
white knight. Don't be a knuckle head dude. He didn't mean buy a gmc cause the adapter dude. He was saying test drive it, look in the glove box for the adapter then return the truck without it.
That would be stealing, I wouldn't recommend that.
Thanks for the reply Epic..I was thinking that way also but was not sure about it. All the towing I have done with other trucks had the 2 inch receiver and never thought twice about it. Guess I was getting all worked up about nothing.
I bought a reducer from e-trailer.com and it did not fit at all! i hit it with a sledge hammer a few times till i said wtf am i doing? i brought it to my neighbor who has a machine shop, and he had to take off a good amount of metal for it to fit. We got it to fit, and i used it a few times, but it was never right, because the hole was to far back and cuased the front to be pushed in the hitch a little. So i bit the bullet and bought the OEM ford one, and let me tell you, its worth it....
I use a DT 2" adjustable hitch, but i agree, there needs to be more options out there for a 2.5 hitch that are adjutable.
Now I seem a little lost, I have a 2010 F-250 and it has the 2" and reading the post on here it seems like the years before mine and after came with the 2.5"

Not true. I have a 2011 f250 and it has a 2 1/2" receiver. The 2" is an option on the 2011
Ahh! ok, on the 6.4L the 250s had the 2" only from my understanding. Was not aware the newer can have either. So what is standard on the 250 now? a 2.5? with an option to have a 2"?
