new radiator

Had to buy new radiator, bought a aluminum/plastic replacement 2 row but is thicker than the original, tight fit but looks like it will work ok. Probably made in Tiawan!
Fired up the motor for the first time since carb rebuild, runs good.
Need help finding some center cap screws for the wheels I bought from the salvage yard, 1994 vintage chrome plated steel. So far I can only find the screws at Ford, $4.00 each and only come in package of 12, only need 4!

Are those screws chrome plated with a flat outer edge and a straight slot screwdriver head ?? If so...I need some if you have extras...same screw used on my Rangers plastic wheel center cap.
BTW...12 per package...3 screws used per wheel...times 4 wheels...equals one bag per truck needed...

Post a pic and p/n if you get a chance...

Screw is tapered with slotted head, have not purchased yet. I am looking at all early 90's ford trucks, hoping to buy at least 2 caps with screws!

I called jc whitney, they have the center caps, but customer service does not if screws are included! Hopefully I will hear from them tomorrow, if screws are included you can have my old ones.

389465S45 .. Chrome Screw-Use w/Styled Wheel Hubcaps / Available from Ford / Fits: 1987/96 F150, E150 & Bronco.

MSRP each: $4.20 // FTE Ford Dealer Parts Dept Sponsor PARTSGUYED.COM price each: $2.52.

Ed (Horizon Ford in Seattle) does not have any, so you'll have to order the entire package...but the following do.

ZIEMS FORD in Farmington NM has 7 = 505-325-1961.

JST AUTOMOTIVE in Lebanon TN has 10 = 615-443-3086.

DAVE BOHN FORD in Harvey LA has 14 = 504-349-9731.

W. W. FORD SALES in Searcy AR has 15 = 501-268-2486.

HAVEN FORD SALES in Haven KS has 19 = 800-748-7803.

GREEN SALES CO. in Cincinnati OH has 87 = 800-543-4959.

There are other sources, two in TX, but only have a total of 3.

Note: These screws thread into plastic inserts that are hand pressed into the wheels. The mistake people make is, the FIRST time the screws are removed, the inserts should not be used again.

People do not know this, use the inserts over again. Sooner or later, usually sooner, the hubcap flies off taking the screws and inserts with it!

The inserts, hubcaps and screws are all sold separately.

> > > Don, Ranger hubcap screws are metric, the above screws are not.

The nuts pressed on the 92-96 f-150 styled chrome steel wheel are steel not plastic, Bill.

I've seen them both ways, and the parts catalog lists two different types.

D7TZ1A100A .. Nylon Insert / Fits 1977/96 / MSRP each: $1.12 // PARTSGUYED.COM price each: $0.80

D8TZ1A100A .. Steel Insert / Fits 1978/96 / MSRP each: $22.08 !! // PARTSGUYED.COM price each: $15.90.

You aren't seeing things, the price each is correct. The steel inserts come in a package of 6, the MSRP for the package is $132.48.

The same thing occured with the steel inserts. Once the screws have been removed, the inserts should not be used again. This is the major reason why the caps go missing.

If the inserts go missing, and if nylon will work in the place of steel (the screws are the same), considering the price, which type would you prefer to use?

I believe it Bill. I priced some inner side window rubber strips ( anti rattlers?) at the Ford place a while back for a 91 f-150..... $30 a piece WOW!!! I told them to keep em.What I was going by on the wheels, I've got a couple sets of the steel chrome, both sets with steel nuts. I had a set of factory aluminum wheels with the plastic inserts.jim

I used to keep the chrome screws you needed in stock in Motormite, HELP packages. I think they are three to the pack. You probably could find them at most any parts store that carries Dorman/Motormite products.

Question

finally got my new center caps from jcw, they look great and came with new screws!. hope to put them on this weekend, how does the old inserts come out? I got new plastic inserts too.

Hooked up my new under dash water temp guage, works good, shows temp just below 200, so new rad, thermostat, and hoses are doing their job.

But now I have a new problem, when I was running engine up to temp, the left exhaust pipe started pouring oy blue smoke! I wonder if that extra quart of oil is coming out! I added the 6th quart after much discussion in another thread about how many quarts to run in the 352 cid. Guess I will drain a quart out and see what happens. I have only run this engine 3 or 4 hours since oil change! Any ideas?
