Ok I have a 1963 f100 with a 223.
The problum is I had a cracked exaust manifold and with the help of some posters on this forum I was unable to find a good one so I have replaced it with a header. The exaust manifold and the intake manifold where bolted together under the carborater shoud I leave this open or do I need to cap this off?
Welding exhaust manifolds is a study in futility. Usually when the manifold gets hot, the weld gives way.
The same 223 exhaust manifold was used from 1954 thru 1964 on trucks and passenger cars, so...one would think a used manifold would be EZ to find, but the reverse is true.
This manifold is very hard to find, because it was notorious for cracking. AFAIK, no NOS manifolds exist.
The connection between the intake and exhaust manifolds as to pre-heat the intake to avoid carb icing in cold weather. Having headers will pretty much negate that effect. Kind of up to you about adding a block-off.

This is kind of what I thought seeing as this wont be a dailey driver I dont belive there will be much call for alarm.
