heavy load
just had a question about what it takes to overload a Ranger. my truck is a 2000 2.5L 2wd 5sp. a friend asked me to carry some 2-4" river jack stone. i took 3 trips of about 2 miles carrying about half a yard each trip- a full bobcat load each time. i tried to drive slow especially over bumps.
just searched on google and i'm finding numbers that say a yard of crushed stone weighs about 2500+ pounds. if this is accurate a little calculating tells me i might have hauled 1250 pounds in this small truck. anything to check to make sure no damage was done? just out of curiosity, has anyone hauled this much?

Should be no damage done with that load. Next time be sure to air up the rear tires to the max shown on the sidewall before loading. If you are curious, look at the drivers door weight label for REAR GAWR. That's rear gross axle weight rating. Yours is probably something like 2700 pounds. If you have ever weighed your truck, you probably got a rear weight of 750 pounds per side for 1500 pounds for the rear. Add that to the 1250 pounds of rock you were hauling and you were maybe 50 pounds over the limit. A lot of us have gone way beyond the recommended limit without damage to our vehicles.

1250 lbs. is no problem. I've hauled 1800 lbs several times (paving stones) and the bump stops weren't contacting yet. You know you're overloaded when the front wheels no longer contact the ground.
