Makin it GRUNT?

well, tonight i had one big old load behind the old powerstroke. i took my truck loaded with tools, and some landscape stones in the bed (about 8500), along with my 25 foot deck-over trailer weighing in at 7,500#, and loaded her up with 7 Tons of alabama sunset decorative rock. top that off with a 5,000 pound bobcat, and well my friends, it is a load for a 3/4 ton truck with an auto. definately make a lil grunt.

what about u guys, whats the most you all have ever hauled/towed?

Thats quite the load there. Most I've had is an 873 Bobcat. And those loaders that you are speaking of are fairly common, the ones that steer in the middle just mean that they are articulated and the scale on the machine is pretty common with companies that do a lot of loading trucks. They use a computer that is hooked up to the hydrolic pistons for the arms and calculate the pressure that is needed to raise them.

I like the middle steer, but not those ones.
biggest i've hauled was two cars, on a car trailer.
wish i owned a camera at the time...
Towed a 2001 Dodge with the cummins at the same time as a old Chevy LUV.
Guessing it to be about ten thousand plus trailer.

I guess I will be the first to say this....While I think its awesome that these trucks can pull that kind of load I am very glad that my family and I are far from sharing the road with you. It happens here in Michigan too but just cause you can move that load down the road doesn't mean you can safely stop it and steer it. If you ever were surprised by a red light and didn't get stopped in time and t-bone my wife with my daughters in the car the chances of me (assault) being in jail with you (vehicular homicide) would be very great!

I think it is pretty foolish to tote that kind of weight around with a truck that is not capable to stop the load or safely steer it in an emergency situation.

I see people that over load their vehicle all the time here and like TJ said, it is not safe and there are reasons states have rules for properly loading and moving such things. That said tho there are sometimes you may test your limits, but do it in a manor that doesn't endanger other people, and yourself.

Getting loaded up is cool, but I like pulling stumps to really make the truck grunt....

i only haul that kind of load slow and short distances. it stopped good, i can make all 8 trailer tires grab. its not that bad on the truck, nor the stopping. i have never had any worries about stopping it. like someone else said, i can actually stop better with the trailer.

I would dare say that you are in the minority then. Many who haul like that has trailers that have not been serviced, brake out of adjustment and brake controllers that are not set high enough. Those people scare me!

the most for me was 2 pallets of barn lime and my JD 317 on my 16FT Dove tail trailer.
the lime was 4,400 LBS and the trailer is 1,700 LBS and i have no fricken clue how much that deere weighs in at. and she pulled and stopped her very well with the trailer brakes. but about a mile from my farm i blew a fuse so i lost trailer brakes. man o man i dont know how ppl can stop with out them.
so im with TJ on that one. its not safe to haul massive loads that semis should be hauling. i felt safe with trailer brakes but what if they go out when you have that 30,000 LB load on your trailer. your not going to stop for a red light in time and you will kill some one.
just my .02 cents
Mitch

I used to have an old GMC dump that only had brakes (well ,good brakes ) when it was pulling a loaded trailer...thanks to good trailer brakes ...

I also can testify. I stop better with the trailer on. But that is ONLY if the trailer has a load on it otherwise it just skips and slides behind me like a grade school girl.. It all depends on the quality of your rig and the maintenance as well. If you do this sort of thing don't half a$$ it. Check your trailer brakes and adjust them if necessary.
And yes trailer brakes can go out on occasion but truck brakes can go out too. I imagine it is like comparing an 11 year old brake line to a fuse in the panel. Each is subject to go at any time but this is why you need upkeep and pre-trip inspections.
