I bought a "79 F250 4x4 60 rear (an when i got it 60 front disc's.. probably not stock) C6 351M Camper special. Well the guy said he owned it for 5 or so years and noticed the drivers side " CAMPER SPECIAL " badge was upside down and the guy he bought it from said it was a factory slip. Said they pulled the inner fender and the back side looked like it had never been tampered with looked untouched. I wonder.. with all the inspections and all the people looking at this before it left the build plant.. is it really possible such a thing could happen? Im just kinda really interested in this and if anyone else has had same kinda thing happen to there truck.. anything weird that slipped past final inspection and you've caught?
thanks
Bill
My guess is someone through the years just put the badge on wrong. I've seen it before where an emblem will have a broken tab and missing a barrel clip, so the emblem is put back in improperly just so it will be there.
I worked at a Ford dealership in the late 70's, and the only things I ever found in new vehicles, were interior body panel screws, the black vale extensions with the white tip, an occasional pastry wrapper under the seat along with a small paper coffee cup. A few dirty foot prints, dash screws, and if I remember correctly a few razor blades still in the wrapper. I always looked for loose change, paper money, anyone signing their name, or writting a spicific date, or initials, or a handfull of build sheets they didnt know what to do with, but I never did.
PS: I would also assume that someone put that badge back on upside down.
And I've never heard of that, can you seriously believe that no one on the assembly line, at final inspection, delivery, the dealer, or the original customer would not have noticed an upside down badge? that would be pretty obvious....
I worked at a Chevy dealership from 1973 to 1978. I have seen various badging problems. One that I remember was a 2-ton Chevy truck with GMC badges on both sides. This truck had the correct horn button, but there were a bunch extra under the seat. So yes, these things can get past the factory inspection but I doubt that and upside down badge would have sneaked past dealership or first owner.
Well as i said " is it really possible " you folks would know better then most. i was sceptical but he seemed devout in his belief. Thanks folks. oh lol just remembered when i first got it home i set to cleaning it all out as it had sat for fair few months.. i found one of those short things.. in white paper.. twisted up behind the drivers seat. gave my wife to be an i a chuckle
