Thumbs up Engine Code Help with a 390

I'm looking to rebuild a 390 for my truck. It's a 1977 F-150 and currently has a 360 in it.

I looked at a 390 today and couldn't find a sequence of numbers on the block longer than like 4 or 5 characters. Where would I be able to find the block casting numbers? I believe it to be a 1976 390?

I was told the motor had an electronic distributor.

First, here is some information that I found. Second, here are the numbers that I got and their locations, let me know if there's any signifigance to them, thanks:

105 is reversed and upside down I beleive. It's located on the bottom right of the drivers side.

D4TE is upside down on the passenger side of the block up front as well.

I also found the number 13 with an upside down "W" next to it, and the W was upside down on top of what looked like a copyright symbol, but i don't think the circle surrounding the C was complete. This was located on the driver side front, upside down in between the first and second exhaust manifold ports. This mark is also on the water pump and intake manifold.

On the driverside valve cover, it had the original sticker for the motor that had this number: D6TE-9C485-BHA.

The oil filter is on a 90 degree angle (horizontal) to the block on the driver side.

On the carb, there is a tag that has this number: D5TEATA B 5K 21

The spark plug size: BRF42
Gap: .42 - .46

On the back side of the intake is the number: D5TE-9425-KB

I hope that this information can help one of you guys help me to figure out what this motor is and if it's anything special becasue of the reversed numbers. The guy told me that it means it could be bored to a 428, that it has thicker cylinder walls.

all those things you are reading ar either Plant part castings or parts design numnbers

9425 - means Intake manifold

D5TE - means part was designed for 1975 Truck (but used in later years)

CODE ?

You mean Casting numbers

The Engine Code is on the Door Rating Plate.

There was an engine ID tag usually attached to the coil bracket from the factory.
I can decode those codes for you.

390's tags were coded:
EG 615 L0
EG 615 M1
FG 615 AA
FG 615 AB
GG 615 AA
GK 615 AB

the reverse 105 is an industrial block and are desirable as they do have thicker cylinder walls, boring it from a 360/390 to a 406/428 means boring it .080 over. Even though it is a 105 still have it sonic checked before you bore over as some will only go .060 over without having overheating problems. If you are going to put a different crank in that 360 then put a 428 crank at least. If you dont bore it over then you will have a 410. If you do then obviously you have a 428.

The 105 blocks are no different when it comes to wall thickness as the others. Last 105 block I had was hard pressed to bore to .030 over. Wall thickness is a crap shoot.

Measure the stroke to find out what you have.
360 has 3.50" stroke 390 has 3.78".
