Aux Button on Radio

Wise Ones,

I drive a 2005 F-250. How in the world do i use the 'Aux" button on my radio? I would love to plug my ipod or iphone up to the radio, but I have not idea where the connection is for the aux. All i see is the button on the radio. What am i missing here?

Is your Radio a factory unit? or aftermarket? Some units thta don't have a connection on the front of the radio, have connections on the back. More than likely you will have to run a aux cable from the back of your radio to connect your IPOD.

It is a factory supplied radio. They typical 6 disc CD Player which has the aux button on the right side.

How do i know there is an input in the back of the radio for me to connect to? if there is...does the radio have to come out?

My 2008 had a female plug on the dash under the radio, not on the radio. If you don't have the female plug, then about the best way to find out is to either pull the radio out or ask the dealer service dept. You might have better luck trying Best Buy or a electronics store that installs car radios.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think if you have a Aux button, then you should be able to conect your IPOD or other device to your radio. If the jack is not in the back of the radio, they should be able to install a new radio adapter harness to your radio and run the cable to somewhere on your dash.

Good places to check are center console or glove box. It will just be a mini-phone plug, not an I-Pod controller cable. On our Lincoln MKX it was a plug build-in-to the front inside of the console.

I wired mine up so I can run anything with a headphone port into it. I often play Pandora from my phone.

This would probably work for you...
* FORD FRD04 AUX INPUT ADAPTER FOR AUDIO (2004 AND NEWER CARS WITH 16 PIN PORT -AND- AUX BUTTON)*::*FORD AUX ADAPTERS (Radios with INTERNAL -INSIDE RADIO- CD CHANGERS or NO CD CHANGERS)*::*FORD LINCOLN MERCURY AUX IPOD MP3 ADAPTER*::*AUX AND IPOD ADA
or this...
**PIE FRD04-POD/S FORD TO IPOD (FORD IPOD ADAPTER FOR CAN BUS)*::*IPOD DIRECT COMPATIBLE AUX ADAPTERS*::*AUX AND IPOD ADAPTERS*::*OEM Factory Aux Ipod Adapters & Changers*::*AUTOTOYS

I didn't order from this site so I don't know anything about it. I'm sure you can find the stuff cheaper with enough searching.

Just make sure you check your truck to see if these will work. You're probably gonna have to pull your radio to see what inputs are back there - you might want to call around and ask about the adapters too.

I thought about it being in the glove box or the center console and checked but didn't find anything.

I would rather use something that is already there than purchasing a 3rd party product. I just need to know if something is there or not first.

no, there shouldn't be an AUX input anywhere in your vehicle.

There are auxillary modules that you can add on to the radio later. For instance, the iSimple Gateway to give yourself an iPod input/interface.

In 2008 Ford finally added a 1/8" audio jack input on the dashboard. ...it isn't the best place for it, as a careless knee will snap the male plug off inside... don't ask me how I know.

The AUX button is just an indication that you can add an external module to your radio.

ford added a actual AUX input to the radio in late 2006 according to the mustang guys ours was in the center console of the stang. our 2005 ford focus had the button but no input. like the others have said you can buy several diffrent styles of aux inout boxes for your radio. just for references go to crutchfields website and you can look at them. not promoting crutchfield but they have lots of pictures and specs.

behind the dash, you can do something like this:
Name: utf-8BSU1HMDAwNzUtMjAwOTA2MjgtMTIwO.jpg
Views: 75706
Size: 39.1 KB

and use the aux button.

I should have kept that OEM radio....my aftermarket head unit only lead to theft, broken locks, and cracked dash board.

It just pops off. But it might be kind of tight if it's never been removed. Turn your ignition key JUST far enough to let the transmission shift (not even to the "run" position) and drop the gear shift lever down to 1st. Then grab the edge of it with your fingernails and pull it towards you.

It will come JUST far enough out to get a 7mm nut driver in to the radio mount screws without having to unplug all the wiring and vacuum connectors. Unplugging just the headlight wiring connectors will give you a substantial increase in working room.

I just finished putting a factory sub from a 2008 supercab into my 2007 supercab, to complement the 2007 Factory Audiophile unit from a Focus (that was 100% plug-n-play).

Surprisingly, it RAWKS...

My attempt to "upgrade" to aftermarket resulted in new door handles and such..... 2 DAYS after installation.

That FRD aux module is a PIE unit. Go to www.pie.net, or do a google search for PIE Ford Adapter. You'll see all the nice adapter modules they make.

I have that same FRD04-AUX unit, on my 2003 it plugs into the EXTERNAL CD CHANGER port (an option, even though there is already an integrated 6 CD changer). On mine I push the CD button twice to cycle to the external unit, which is now actually the FRD AUX unit, which I have the exact same 1/8th in audio cable setup run from under the dash to allow all types of audio devices to be used (XM radio, MP3 player, etc).
