To my way of thinking (which has always been a bit warped... just ask my wife! ) growing up to be a responsible adult who ackowledges his obligations to family and society and does what is necessary to meet them, IS being cool. Cause there's an awful lot of scumbags who sponge off social programs, run around on their wives, and totally neglect their children.
So, bubba, you ARE cool!!

I was definately working at 11 last night.... so don't feel too bad. If i'm not at school i'm at work. Hooray for having a life!

On the other hand, I did get a couple hours under my Bronco yesterday changing the oil, and filters and stuff and just getting to know the undercarriage. So that was the highlight of my day.

If its any consolation at 11PM last night I was falling asleep on the sofa. And there are lots of times I spend Sat afternoon and evening (til I fall asleep in the book) trying to study. So don't worry about it, being responsible is totally cool.

Saturday Night Fun

At 11 pm on Saturday I was at the local tavern enjoying a Jim Beam and water and talking about the important things with some farmer friends... like whether the pretty redhead in the corner would dance with me.

First time I'd been out for a long time. Most of the time I'm strictly a local-news-first-half-of-SNL-before-snoozing-on-the-sofa type. A friend I work with in town called me and wanted to buy me a drink, though, and I thought I deserved it.

I agree with the sentiment that taking care of your obligations is what "Cool" is all about.

We usually either spend the evening at the neighbors or the spend it at our place. They have a boy the same age as ours. Most nights involve renting a movie for the kids to watch, and the adults either play games or watch a different movie. If there is drinking, we always have at least one sober parent, usually my wife as she was pretty sick last time she drank so she avoids drinking now. Works good for us.

Let's see, 11pm Saturday- Oh yeah, I just started another insanely boring 16hr shift making sure nothing sinks, burns or freezes in the shipyard. Not much fun anymore.

Surprisingly enough, I was not working at 11 on Sat. night. We invited 2 of my dads friends over for a steak dinner, and they were gone by 11:30. (they got in around 8). One of my dads friends had 9 beers, then drove home. Oh well, he made it back......I think. Can't wait to see what I have planed for next Saturday. (work most likely)
