gumper 123,
yeah w/ 4.10's booking it out @ 70 mph you'll never have a chance.
swap to 3.55's or keep her at 45-55 mph and you should see teens.
im a little surprised it did "that" poor w/ the E40D but that's moving a lot of air.what tire size ya running? she a 2wd?

cpetersen,
look for the axle code on the drivers side door jam sticker and then look it up here:
What is my Ford rear end ratio, do I have positraction - Drivetrain.com

yeah i am looking more and more at the 3.55's it would be nice to cruise at 60 rather than fight it out. ill drop it to 3.55 when i get the torque cam.

how much is it going to cost you to do this swap and are you doing it yourself? I was thinking to do the same thing

oh yup i missed it.thanks John.
well darn.that makes gear swapping more pricey.can swap the whole rear axle w/3.55's from a salvage yard to save some green (as long as your not DRW,cus the price may be close to just have gears swapped),but likely best to have someone install 3.55's in the front.

you can't compare wrecks to yours.
he's 2wd and SRW.
he can head to the local salvage yard, grab a $150-$200 rear axle w/3:55's,buy some new U-bolts and be done in an afternoon for well under $250 easy.
heck, save even more than salvage yard prices, and get a srw 3.55's from private party.(though the 30 day warranty is nice.)

your DRW rear is roughly $350-$900 (depending on the yard) and then you'd need to pay for gears and installation in the front axle.-likely just be the same, possibly cheaper to have both axle gears swapped....roughly around a grand.
what i would do,is to try and find someone to swap rear axles....'92-97 DRW 3.55 cab and chassis only!! no other year due to vss,and not pickup drw cus it wont fit...you did verify its a C&C right?
thats "kinda" a small window to find lol,to top it off,you need to find a guy with same thing, who is looking for 4.10's who now has 3.55's....i kinda wounder if ford even bothered putting 3.55's in the C&C DRW trucks anyway.
long story short, your stuck paying for gear installation front and rear lol.

well if your on snow,it will just slip.problem is,the rear end will try and come up front lol.
i had 3.08's in my last truck, and changed 3.55 in the rear.-the truck wasn't worth much $ invested to me.i only use 4lo anyway, and that worked like that.but when its snowing, and you want 4wd for the street, forget it.it beat having a 2wd still, cus if i slid off i could still lock it in and get unstuck.but it's nothing you want to do really.it limits your 4wd use to a "need to use only" (pretty much 4lo,or real slow on snow in 4hi) basis.

Yes, you should expect better even at 70 MPH. You do have fairly low gears, but you also have the E4OD transmission. Your numbers should be at least 15 MPG in my opinion. What did it get before you turned up the fuel?

What age are your injectors and injector pump?

Do you know if the timing has ever been tampered or set properly?

also there will be no shifting to 4x4 on the fly (ie. going say 25mph down the road) youll tear your tc apart when the gears take up IIRC im sure someone will correct me if im wrong
