yea it is a long bed! Honestly though....whats the diff between the shocks and springs on the rear of a 150 XL vs a 150 XLT or Lariat even?

The springs probably not much but there is a difference between the shocks on the different trucks that I can say for sure. A Lariat is designed more for comfort of the passengers where a XL is more a full on work truck and meant to take some rough days. When you pull the trucks apart you will not find many differences but you will find them in the suspension of the trucks for sure.

Well I have replaced all of the shocks and it has helped a little bit but it still rides rough as a tank. I have put new bridgestone tires on it and new KYB shocks.

I am out of guesses. Any other things I can do or is that it?

I am going to guess that you have done about all you can for that truck. I guess maybe the front coil springs could be shot but I can't be certain there. If you have a place you trust they could check that out for you. But remember the XL is the model used by most contractors so they are meant to take a beating and not be super comfortable. Most of these trucks you see will have ladder racks and other things loaded up on them which might smooth out the ride some too.

Thanks Drew. I read on other topics through this forum and some people say to "get over it" haha They dont mean to be harsh but it is a truck. I may just try to do that.

This is an excellent point I always forget about that because since these are usually beater trucks it may have the HD suspension and then he is right you won't get any better then you have without adding an air ride system.

Based on the pcture of his truck and signature on the post, his truck is a standard payload F150 not one with the optional heavy duty payload package. He has chrome wheels which Ford doesn't offer in the 7 lug variety and you can't get the HD payload package with a 4.6.

For S's & Giggles, why not put a few hundred pounds of sand into the bed of your truck and see if that smooths things out. Extra ballast was the trick many of us used to smooth out the ride of our old 60's/70's vintage 3/4 or 1 ton trucks. This just might do the trick for you here. And it makes sense that the XL is on the lighter end of things but probably still uses the same springs as heavier XLTs or fancier.

Good luck finding a way to improve the ride of your truck

ok I will try it! Oh and that chrome is a cover that came with the truck. Its aftermarket.

I will add some weight and see what happens. I know if u add weight then fuel mileage goes down. Thats sorta against the purpose of the truck but I will give it a shot.
Do you guys think the type of tires cause it?
Thanks for all the help!

Dude: 90,000 miles? The shocks are worn out! Plus, you have no idea what the previous owner did to/with the truck. The XL has always been one of the best buys out there, and the factory parts are not cheap stuff. In fact, the 2007 XL has the F250 6500GVW chassis. My V6 came with Hankook tires which have been great - quiet and sticky. The truck has always ridden like a big RWD car from the '70s. Most of these trucks will give a liitle 'shudder' around 50 MPH but I have no idea what it is. Mine does it at one place and it could be the asphalt. It has no 'wheel hop' at higher speeds or lower.
I suspect your truck has been worked pretty hard. 90,000 is a lot for a 2007.

I missed the 90K portion of the thread. Factory shocks are pretty weak even when new. 90K is too much for them.

I put 320 pounds in the back of my 07 ever winter and I don't see any significant decrease in mileage. I see more of a drop due to the crappier winter gas and cold temps.

I did put new shocks on it.

It was Enterprise Rent a Cars district managers truck. ALOT of highway miles and it was clean as a pin. Runs awesome. Just trying to get a better ride.

My XL has 63k and being an ob i switched out the OEM 17inch wheels for an OEM 18 inch and added a set of 285/65/18 Michelin M/S 2 at 36 psi and here in east Tennessee they are the best and pulling the boat to the coast is not an issue at all this truck just keeps on rolling smooth
