Rough riding XL?

I just bought a 2007 xl and it sure does ride rough. Feels like it has f450 springs in the rear. Is this common? It doesn't ride like other 150s I have ridden in. Is there anything I can do? Even with a trailer it rides rough.

what ply tires do you have?

you have the smaller axle and a lower tow rating my 2006 FX4 I had. it rode pretty nice actually. rather un-trucklike

check to see if you have an add-a-leaf out back, Load Range E tires, tires aired up 45-50 psi.

can be many factors. the 04-10 trucks ride really smoothly in factory trim

The tires are BFG's EXTRA LOAD is says on the sidewall. The pressures were 45 but I backed them down to 38 per what the manual says.

I am going to post pics to show the truck and everything to make sure I am not overlooking anything and get your opinion.

This thing wont let me post pics but the rear tires were replaced and Bridgestone Duelers were put on the front. The front are new Bridgestone Duelers A-T P235 70R17 M+S

Rear are older BFG's Long Trail T/A P235 Tour 70 R17 M+S Extra Load.

Everything else looks like a normal F150. It also has the 3.55 gear.

My 07 XL rides rough too.Back in 07 Ford had my truck for a week to fix a detonation problem. They gave me a 07 XLT crew cab as a loaner. That truck drove almost as smooth as a Cadillac! My guess is the suspension on the XL is built to work truck specs.

I hope the new tires on the rear will help smooth it out. Mine is rough even with a heavy trailer load on the back though. I think those older rear tires are the culprit. Im not sure. I am still hoping some people can shed some light on it in this forum.

UPDATE

I put new Bridgestone Duelers and got the balanced perfect. It still rides rough and has a very mild shimmy on the highway.

Do you think the shocks have gone bad at 90000 miles? What else can I do???

At 90k if the truck was weighted down in the back a good bit or driven roughly over hard surfaces then yes the shocks could have gone bad.

Sounds like you are on the right track to getting it run smoother. Remember most people buy these trucks for work purposes so don't expect it to ride like an Fx4 or larait but it should run better then how you have said it is.

90000 on original suspension, I would replace shocks and struts. I have 74000 on my '04 and trying to decide what shock to go to. I have an XL and it has always driven smooth with or without a load.

Bill do you have any suggestions on what shock to put on it?

I swear it still has a little bit of a shimmy down the road like the tires are still out of balance but I just feel that the rear is sitting on the leaf springs.

When you push down you hear the rear shocks compress and it doesnt dolphin any. I dont know. I really like the truck and it runs good.....this is just frustrating trying to get answers.

Advance Auto has shocks for 50 bucks a piece. They are Rancho lite shocks. I may go buy a couple and put them on this weekend.

Do you guys think thats a good idea or am I just spending dumb money.
