From what I've read, the NV 4500 is the best, most durable 5 sp around. Has anyone installed this with a 300? I'd like to know what adapters are needed, etc.
The NV4500 is comparable to the ZF, and once you've bought the NV and associated adapters, you are well within the price of a rebuilt ZF needing no adapters.
I suppose if you have the NV already, the cost of the adapters might not be as objectionable as going out and getting a new ZF though.
There are a few installation threads (with pic and 'instructions') on CB for 4WD with the 351/302 which has the same bolt pattern but of course other differences. Should B pretty close tho.
I'd love to use the NV, but the cost of adapters is a major consideration. I'm still debating whether to swap to a manual. I really like the open floor area of an automatic. And factoring in the cost of making the conversion in order to get more power and mpg, I have to consider how many years it would take to pay for the swap--weighing how much is spent per tank of gas, and how many miles I get vs. what I will get, and the savings.
I am just mocking up the nv4500 with my 351 on a 79 F250 4x4 frame. I got the adapter from Advanced Adapters(little over $400 for the kit). I am building a new xmember instead of hacking up the original.
Pretty easy so far, but I don't have a cab in the way.
I had an 87 donor for the bell housing and clutch pedals... Hydraulic clutch. I will be double layering the cab area due to stress issues on the ford cab.
