July B/S thread
Hello everyone.I just finished the 25 page employment package for this job in Afghanistan.
It gets faxed out tomorrow.
I sent an email today to the recruiter informing him that I had compiled everything and to confirm the snail mail address.
He seemed eager to get me on board.
So if they are still interested in me (read that as desperate) then I figure I'll hear back soon and could be gone in a week's time as soon as the background checks clear.
Since aviation is DOT drug restricted I would expect to have to tender a specimen before I leave, and that could easily happen next week too.
Ya - I'm counting my chickens before they hatch and I don't even know what the going rate is over there, but it feels good to think positive for once.
The rest I'll deal with as I go.
thats a great opportunity id apply if i didnt already have a job
go for it dave i mean its hot but its a dry heat way better than hot and humid north east this summer
the only down side i can think of a a free tan
I think Greg made it down here ok but I was out for a little while and then swimming so I never saw him.
Drunken Tennessee caveman isn't allowed on the Jersey lemonade any more but that's another story for a different day.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
7:15 am, I pull up to the lot, and am the second one there. I pull off to the side and wait for the gate to open, as the place doesn't even open until 8:15. I see the sign saying 8000 lb weight limit, so I figure my final spot will be where I am parked, right in front of the courthouse. I think this is great, as I will get free advertising, and a guard pretty much watching my truck all day. I fed the meter for two hours time.
8:15 rolls around, and it is time to go in. We have to go through the metal detectors, so I made sure to take tons of quarters for the meter in with me (thx GTPETE). I empty the contents of my pockets in the bin at the guard desk, and as planned, asked what the quarters were for. I said I was parked in metered parking. He said that I could not park there, and he would have a guard escort me to move it into the jury lot. I told him what the sign said, and what I had for a truck, and he sent me on my way upstairs to the jury room instead, asking me to tell the girls upstairs what I told him.
8:30 I'm up at the girl's desk, signing in. After signing in, I said, "Oh, BTW, the guard downstairs told me to tell you I am parked in metered parking."
"That's OK, " said the girl, "I'll have you escorted out by a guard so you can move it to the jury lot."
So I repeated my arranged statement.
She told me to sit down and they would get to the bottom of this situation.
After about half an hour, they call my name and I go up to the desk, where a guard is standing. He explains that if it were him, he wouldn't leave his truck out on the street, and that I have some options. "You can either move to an all day lot, at your expense, or you can reschedule for another day." "Do you have another car you can drive the next time?"
"No, sorry, this is my vehicle for everything. I would have to borrow one."
The girl chimes in and says, "why don't we schedule you for the week of Christmas. They never have jury selection for that week, as all the judges are usually on vacation."
"Perfect, why don't we schedule that right now"
The guard escorted me to my truck, and confirmed that it was way too heavy to park in the lot, and I went on my way. Thank you F-450!
On a related note, there was some jackhammering going on in the lot while I was there, and the guard said it was because of some structural problems in the lot, which I guess is a garage of some sort, that is entered from the street on the top floor. He assured me that if I parked in the lot, my truck would be in the basement when I came out.
you should be ok for the week of xmas though.
im off for a bike ride, supposed to go to two parties tonight but i dont know if i will make to either one, i may find a twisty road and follow it all over the state

dont party too hard everybody!
