just took my recently purchased truck to emmissions tesing. The c02 levels were elavated and did not pass. I came home and checked for trouble codes on computer I found a few for voltage issues that are not there anymore. I tried to reset the ecm but it will not reset, I have disconnected the battery for 10minutes, I also cancelled the codes according to the sun code reader I had from previous for vehicles. I also have. the codes are found with koeo test. when I try to check for codes with engine on it will not go past the intial long beep, even with pedal, steering throttle actions. Please help!! This was a county truck bought at auction and I was told the computer was changed. where is the location of the computer.
Thanx for noticing my post. sorry for the incorrect co designation. I was really frazzled after trying to figure out the code issue. any help would be greatly appreciated.
Ford Fuel Injection How To Run a Self-Test Here is a link to instructions for getting codes without a code reader, may be worth a try.
If you were to remove the drivers side kick panel you might just be able to see the computer. You get to it and remove it from under the hood.
Hopefully some of the experts will give an opinion on the high CO levels soon.
How 'bout the basics: dirty air filter? Spark plugs worn? Cap/rotor/spark plug wires in good shape? Timing adjusted correctly? Since you just bought it, how old is the gas in the tank?

No problem. Do you have the test readings? Excess CO means one of two things:
1-Engine running rich - There's not enough O2 to match up to all the Cs in the gasoline from dumping too much fuel. When that happens you get start to get CO instead of CO2.
2-Dead catalytic converter - Even in perfect trim you'll still get some CO and so one of the jobs of the catalytic converter is to oxidize the remaining CO into CO2. This is also where the smog pump and TAB/TAD valves come in because that's where the extra oxygen comes from.
Running rich is by far the more likely of the two and where I would start troubleshooting.
the readings are at 2500rpm co:4.74% limit 1.20% (fail) CO at idle 6.22% limit 1.20 (fail) HC at idle 370.2% ppm limit 220.0% (fail) I hope that can help diagnose this problem

sounds rich to me - how are you trying to pull codes? Did you try it with just a paper clip or jumper wire? If the computer is in helen keller mode then it's probably running open loop all the time.
I pulled codes with a sun pro code reader. I have since found that the computer was the incorrect one for this truck they had a 6 cyl 4eo/d computer (f3tf). I have a 6 cyl c6 (f1tf) which I ordered and replaced this evening, also replaced the harmonic balancer and the timing mark is still on the peep hole side of the water pump. It does seem that the timing spout has no effect on the timing.any ideas.
