soo my power steering pump is pooched. I'm going to make a trip to the junk yard tomorrow to see if I can find a descent one there. my question is, do I have to get one of a diesel or can i find one that will fit off another ford?
I have an '87 f250 6.9
Not really a diesel-specific thing, you ca use one off about any Ford that uses that style of pump, rear wheel drive passenger cars included: F-series truck, E-series van, Bronco, Mustang, Lincoln Mark VII, Thunderbird, Mercury Cougar, Ford Crown Victoria, Lincoln Town Car, Lincoln Mark VI, Mercury Grand Marquis, heck even the 5.0 Explorer... may have forgotten one or two, but you get the idea A quick heads up tho - passenger cars with the rack and pinion steering run higher line pressures off the pump, so you may wanna swap out their relief valve and spring for the ones in your current pump - they're not really wear items so even if your pump went kaput the valve and spring should still be good. To be on the safe side tho, grab a pump from a vehicle that has a steering gear box, and not a steering rack.
