IDM mod decision

So after this week, is there anyone on here who still endorses the 140v IDM mod? I have a 75.0k digi-key resistor that I got a couple weeks ago but now I'm not so sure. Anyone had good luck with it for a substantial time?

I am sure I missed some great debate on the IDM mod, but I have had mine in for over a year with no issues, (knock on wood) I may find my IDM fried in a few days but have had no trouble with it

I'm converting to the SD 120V IDM and calling it good. I dont want the risk. The only way I would do the 140V mod is if I hav a spare IDM

I'd like to hear Cookie's thoughts on this. Strange how we've only been hearing this on the OBS trucks. I don't know if it's because the IDM mod has been done longer in those, or if it's just some weird coincidence. If Jim's post was right and there are folks who have finally unlocked all the IDM info, maybe they will be able to tell us if the failures are related to the mod, related to the opening of the IDM, or something else.

Then again, they'll probably just tell us we need to buy one from them to make sure we don't have problems.

Maybe a slight explanation of electronics will help.

Think of electronic components like a motor.

After so many times of firing, that component just fails.

Every time power is sent into the component, it degrades it some micro percentage from the impact of the voltage.
Being that these convert the output of our trucks to 100-140 volts, thats a lot of power to throw around in some delicate electronics.

Does this help anyone with why our's are failing from the 140 mod?

Well it helps bring up another thought. Maybe the circuitry on the downstream side of the resistor is only able to hold, on a 100v IDM, say 110v or 115v consistently and when a 140v resistor is applied it can only hold it for so long. Other factors may contribute to the failure as well like heat, vibration, time in service, etc. Like if you put a 5A fuse in a spot that calls for a 40A, it will hold for some time but is destined to fail. Don't take this as truth unless verified by someone who knows. It is just a thought from my methodical thought type and my limited electrical knowledge.

I've had my 140v in for 8k miles with no problems.

If it ever goes bad, I'll probably get a 120v to replace it though...
