I am thinking I am going to need a new transmission soon and a local company is offering a rebuilt E40D for my vehicle for $699.00. Is this too good to be true? They say they include most oem updates and also include a "shift kit." Not sure if this is the Transgo shift kit or not yet but just what they advertise. Has anybody run across deals like this? Is it a scam or is it a decently rebuilt transmission. I am not expecting alot of a $700 tranny rebuild, but I figure it would get me on the road and with the addition of an external trans cooler and filter, it would be somewhat reliable. What do you guys think?
See and that is the thing, if they have parts and labor in there for $699 isn't that a little on the cheap side? Even everybody on ebay is selling rebuilt E40Ds for around $1000.
They must has access to a core yard, if you tore down enough E40DS or any transmission for that matter, you could come up with enough good parts to make one go.
I gettin' ready to have my e40d rebuilt and a TRUE, complete rebuild is gonna go at appx. $2,500.00. That includes all clutchs, rebuilt torque converter, etc. The best old timer around would do it for $1,600 but his lift won't handle my motor home so it's gonna cost me an extra grand. I've checked and rechecked the price -- all I can get done for $700.00 is rebuild/reseal the front pump (the seal is leaking when it gets really hot). Unit has 88,000 miles on '95 14,000 lb. GVW f53 chassis plus I tow a dingy . That might solve my immediate problem but no guarantee something else wouldn't go the next day.
Good luck at $699.00!
