I'm new to older Ford Trucks but I'm looking at buying a 46 Pickup that has a serial number of 699Y on the frame, but 699C on the title. What are the differences? Are many of the parts interchangeable? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
First off, welcome and I hope you will find all the info you are looking for.
The frames are different, as are the rear axles, and front spindles. The I beam is the same for both. Of course brakes are different. As for the body, the cabs, grille panel, hood, inner fender panels are the same. The front fenders are different, with a larger wheel opening to accomodate the 17" wheels. Other than that, the parts are the same. The one tons only had 4 speeds, and the rear mount on the trans is different from the 1/2 ton 4 speed. 699C is for a 1/2 ton truck, 114" wheelbase, while the 699Y is for a 1 ton with 122" wheelbase. If the 1 ton is a pickup truck, then the bed, rear fenders, and running boards are different from the 1/2 ton versions.

Gary,
Thanks for taking the time to provide all of the good information. I'll get the tape measure out to see for sure which it is. I'm thinking the title is probably in error. Is it possible for there to be a half-ton and a tonner with the same production numbers? That is, 699Y123456 and 699C123456 for example? Thanks
Dan, I suppose anything is possible, however it's very unlikely. The last six digits was for part of the serial number that was unique to every vehicle. However, remember that these numbers were hand stamped, each character individually. Errors were made, and we see them sometimes. On my '46 the number was stamepd, then restarted when the guy stamping it did it wrong. If you have a 114" wheelbase, and the frame reads 699Y, then whoever stamped the frame that day just stamped it wrong and it wasn't caught before it left the plant. Things like that did happen.
happened with my 1/2 ton '48 F1. All the serial numbers and title indicate Y for 1 ton, but the individual part numbers on the shackle brackets, motor perches, etc... are all letter C. Not everyone knew how to read back in them days. Or at the end of a production run at the changeover, not everyone got the memo.
