'95 F53 chassis motorhome, 460EFI, E40D. I have a drive train vibration, very "high pitched" (not sound, vibs per second is the best way I know how to describe it). I have had the drive shaft and u-joints checked and replaced as needed which solved a problem, but I beleive the vibration I now feel is either from the engine or tranny (I have no reason to think it is the engine). I getting ready to have the tranny rebuilt (leaky front pump seal and will not always downshift from OD) and I am wondering if the vibration might possibly be from the torque converter or some other component. Is this a possibility?
RE the tranny fluid, I was told today by Ford Motorhome Customer Service the ONLY approved tranny fluid for this '95 E40D is Mercon V (obviously since Mercon is no longer a Motorcraft product). I have been reading of several other options -- what is the real story, including synthetics and "quasi" synthectics??
Thanks,

The real story is that you can use any fluid with a MERCON V rating. You can use dino, blend, or full synthetic. Motorcraft still markets MERCON V fluids. MERCON V is a specification, and many other companies make fluids that meet MERCON V specs, too.
It's pretty rare for a transmission to cause a vibration like that. A misfire is more likely. It is very rare, but I have seen it happen, where a balance weight falls off either the flexplate or torque converter.
